Street Art - Vandalism or Van Gogh?

Some people love it, some people loathe it. No, I’m not talking about whatever reality pop-idol remake is out at the minute – I’m talking about street art / graffiti / vandalism*. Personally, if it’s done well then I think it’s amazing, you have to admire someone who can great such colourful and imaginative works of art with just a few cans and not much time. I’ve found two sites that track street art in and around Edinburgh (and Glasgow), they are great for taking a second look at the ones you pass in the street and finding out more about what’s behind them – how they were done and what the mean.

Further afield
banksy - very funny, often offensive but still makes you think
Duncan Cumming's full set - same as before, but he goes all over

Oh, and just in case you don’t like that sort of street art, here’s some Street Photography instead (from Edinburgh and elsewhere).

Comments:
what's offensive about Banksy's stuff then? Can't recall any really... I particularly like his rats, there are quite a few bits at Old Street, that I pass on the bus every day.

I think he's taken down a lot of the offensive stuff, although This isn't overly PC. I was just cautioning before entry, this is a family show afterall :)

But his rats are fantastic, the Anti-Climb paint one is genius!

"Grafta Rocks" or so my mate tells me. I think it's generally a load of wasters showing off to their peers.

Keep listening to that there Tenacious D - one day, who knows when, they may well release another album, instead of a (bound to be) piss-poor fillum.

I'm loving Ten D - although the "All we're askin' you to do is drop trou and squeeze out a Cleveland Steamer on my chest." comment always repulses me a bit - but I keep coming back for more!

Give it up for KG, give it up for me..........

Favourite D line:
"I check my dipstick, you need lubricatin', honey, my kielbasa sausage has just got to perform, now GET IT ON!"
