Suddenly redundancy isn’t just a spare PC
We all knew it was coming, the writing has been on the wall (some would say it’s been there for a year now), I’ve been made redundant. Despite being amazing, after another round of layoffs were fired out I couldn’t avoid taking the bullet. It's not too bad, I've been expecting it and all good things must come to an end (plus I'm the last true developer to go so I win!). So I’m going to have to go out and get a proper job, no more lounging in the house, steaming through the work without a distraction. I’ll probably have to go back to being an office worker – the thought fills me with pain.
Anyone want a .NET man in Edinburgh? I can do other things as well, including making the coffee! Don’t make me beg now…….

Cheers Pauly,
Hopefully only good will come of this. Although my complacency and philosophical outlook are already turning to disappointment, anger, fear (and we all know where fear leads).
My biggest question is, do I hang out with the small companies and contract – a risky yet lucrative option building on my existing abilities and not developing them? Or do I go corporate, storm into a big business and take the slow burner – less pay, less work, more personal development and plenty of boredom? Of course, neither may want me – I could just be left on the scrap heap of life now!

Hi there
I've just joined your redundancy club. Can't help you out with a job but just thought I'd post to offer some tea and sympathy. One door closes and all that!

Thanks for that John, sadly I know I’m not alone in being redundant. Also, my situation is vastly better than some people’s so I’m steaming on with things. My goals haven’t changed, so I have to keep trying to achieve them. As such, I’ll take your tea and will swap the sympathy for a chocolate digestive. I’m not going to wallow in what has happened, I choose to keep going to the next step.
Keep up the writing, you’ll reach your goals too I’m sure!
